Dark Blue Easter Eggs With Natural Dye - Blueberries
For these eggs, I dyed them with blueberries. They came out with a very nice blue/purple color.
Making the dye
For this, we used 2 cups of blueberries. For a lighter color use fewer berries.
I added the 2 cups (240 mL) of berries to a 5 cup (1000 mL) pot and added water to equal about a total of 4 cups (950 mL) level.
Just for fun, I added an egg to see how it would turn out.
I simmered the berries for 12 - 20 minutes. Then we remove the egg see how it turned out. It came out a light purple color.
Then we strained the mixture to extract the dye.
Finishing the Eggs
When the eggs cool we use a paper towel with a little oil to give them a light coating.
What is have cooled will use a paper towel with a little olive oil and give him a light coating. The oil also helps preserve the eggs.
